On November 5, 2024, the Nellie McClung Foundation hosted its highly anticipated 20th Anniversary Luncheon at the prestigious Fairmont Hotel. This milestone event brought together community leaders, advocates, and supporters to celebrate two decades of empowering women and girls in Manitoba through the ‘Yes I Can’ Leadership initiative.

A Celebration of Legacy and Future Leadership

The luncheon was not just a commemoration of past accomplishments but also a call to action for the future. Guests were treated to an inspiring fireside conversation featuring The Honourable Janice C. Filmon, C.M., O.M., former Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba and founding Chair of the Nellie McClung Foundation, alongside Anne Mahon.

Raising Funds to Empower Future Leaders

The event also served as a crucial fundraising initiative to support the ‘Yes I Can’ Leadership program. This initiative aims to provide mentorship, resources, and opportunities for young women in Manitoba, helping them develop the skills and confidence needed to become leaders in various fields.

Thanks to the generosity of attendees and sponsors, the luncheon successfully raised significant funds that will directly contribute to expanding leadership programs, scholarships, and community engagement opportunities. The overwhelming support reaffirmed the collective commitment to continuing Nellie McClung’s legacy of equality and empowerment.

The Nellie McClung Foundation acknowledges with respect that we conduct our work on Treaty One Territory and in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis. We honour the Anishinaabeg, Anisininew (Oji-Cree), Ininiwak (Cree), Oceti Sakowin/Dakota Oyate, and Michif (Métis) Peoples as the original caretakers of this land. With gratitude and reciprocity, we recognize the songs, stories, teachings, and knowledge systems rooted here. The Treaties were entered into in good faith, as agreements to share, not surrender, the land. We are committed to upholding the spirit and intent of these agreements, and to building a future grounded in truth, equity, and meaningful collaboration.
