Isis Fernandes

Post-Secondary

Isis Fernandes is an ambitious and compassionate student whose dream of becoming a surgeon is inspired by a promise she made to her late grandfather to make a difference in the world. She plans to study science at the University of British Columbia as a first step toward medical school and a surgical residency, with the goal of using her skills to improve lives through medicine.

A competitive swimmer since 2015, Isis has combined her love of sport with her commitment to mentorship. From 2022 to 2024, she served as a developmental swim coach, guiding swimmers aged 6–12 in building technical skills, fostering teamwork, and developing a passion for the sport. Her leadership has helped young athletes grow in both confidence and ability.

Driven by determination, empathy, and a strong sense of purpose, Isis aims to make a lasting impact in her community — both in healthcare and in the lives of those she mentors.

The Nellie McClung Foundation acknowledges with respect that we conduct our work on Treaty One Territory and in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis. We honour the Anishinaabeg, Anisininew (Oji-Cree), Ininiwak (Cree), Oceti Sakowin/Dakota Oyate, and Michif (Métis) Peoples as the original caretakers of this land. With gratitude and reciprocity, we recognize the songs, stories, teachings, and knowledge systems rooted here. The Treaties were entered into in good faith, as agreements to share, not surrender, the land. We are committed to upholding the spirit and intent of these agreements, and to building a future grounded in truth, equity, and meaningful collaboration.
