High School

Chizara Anyanwu is an innovative young leader, technology advocate, and aspiring computer scientist whose work is already making technology more accessible and inclusive for Manitobans.

Inspired by the belief that technology should connect people rather than create barriers, Chizara has focused her talents on designing solutions that support seniors, students with learning differences, people with disabilities, and rural communities. Her passion for technology has evolved into a commitment to creating tools that improve everyday lives and expand opportunities for others.

Her accomplishments include developing educational technology solutions, earning provincial and national recognition in web development competitions, contributing to cybersecurity initiatives, and creating software that supports learning and accessibility.

A passionate community builder, Chizara serves in leadership roles that promote youth engagement, mentorship, and philanthropy while contributing hundreds of volunteer hours to organizations supporting Manitobans facing food insecurity. Through fundraising, tutoring, and volunteer service, she consistently uses her skills to create opportunities for others.

This fall, Chizara plans to pursue Computer Science at the University of Manitoba, with long-term goals of advancing accessible technology through adaptive design, human-computer interaction, and innovation. Her vision, determination, and commitment to equity embody the trailblazing legacy of Nellie McClung.

The Nellie McClung Foundation acknowledges with respect that we conduct our work on Treaty One Territory and in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis. We honour the Anishinaabeg, Anisininew (Oji-Cree), Ininiwak (Cree), Oceti Sakowin/Dakota Oyate, and Michif (Métis) Peoples as the original caretakers of this land. With gratitude and reciprocity, we recognize the songs, stories, teachings, and knowledge systems rooted here. The Treaties were entered into in good faith, as agreements to share, not surrender, the land. We are committed to upholding the spirit and intent of these agreements, and to building a future grounded in truth, equity, and meaningful collaboration.
