Imrose Kaur

Post Secondary

Imrose Kaur is an emerging healthcare leader whose commitment to improving access to care is shaping her path toward a future career in optometry.

Originally from Thompson, Manitoba, Imrose developed a firsthand understanding of how geography can influence access to healthcare services. Her experiences inspired a passion for ensuring that individuals living in northern, rural, and underserved communities have access to the care and support they need to thrive.

Currently studying at the University of Manitoba, Imrose founded the InSight Pre-Optometry Club to help students gain exposure to careers in optometry and connect with valuable mentorship opportunities. She also serves in student leadership roles that support and advocate for fellow students as they navigate their academic journeys.

Outside the classroom, Imrose is a dedicated soccer coach who is committed to helping young athletes build confidence, resilience, and leadership skills. Her work with youth has reinforced her belief that meaningful leadership is grounded in consistency, encouragement, and service to others.

Imrose hopes to one day return to northern and underserved communities as an optometrist, helping remove barriers to vision care while inspiring future generations to pursue careers in healthcare and science. Her dedication to access, representation, and community impact reflects the legacy of Nellie McClung.

The Nellie McClung Foundation acknowledges with respect that we conduct our work on Treaty One Territory and in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis. We honour the Anishinaabeg, Anisininew (Oji-Cree), Ininiwak (Cree), Oceti Sakowin/Dakota Oyate, and Michif (Métis) Peoples as the original caretakers of this land. With gratitude and reciprocity, we recognize the songs, stories, teachings, and knowledge systems rooted here. The Treaties were entered into in good faith, as agreements to share, not surrender, the land. We are committed to upholding the spirit and intent of these agreements, and to building a future grounded in truth, equity, and meaningful collaboration.
